Server Project

Home

In this project me and a few other people took apart a server. We unplugged all the cords from the motherboard and took out the RAM. After we did that we spun the computer around a few times and tried to put everything back. There was a few cords that we didn't know where they went but after some help from others we put it all back and got it to work. After we turned it on we then started playing some of the games that were on the computer, such as minesweeper, solitare, and some other game I don't remember.

This is a server from the front view.

This is a picture of a motherboard with all the labled parts. There are sections for the CPU, Graphics card, RAM,and there are ports for the Power supply, fans, USB, and a disk drive. It is used to connect all of the componants of the computer together

The CPU(Central Processing Unit) is where all the data is processed. It tells the other componants what to do, It can be called the brain of the computer.

This is the hard drive. It is the computers main storage device. It permantly stores all data that is on the computer. It can be abreviated to HD or HDD for hard drive disk.

The graphics card is what you have your monitor pluged into. It is like the CPU but for video and graphics rendering.

The power supply provides the entire computer with its power. Every componant wont work if there isn't a big enough power supply.

Ram stands for Random Access Memory. This memory would be used for random programs on your computer, or processes on your computer. The data gets wiped after the computer is turned off.

The fans are spread around in the computer to disperse the heat being made from all the componants. If done correct the fans should bring in cool air and take out the hot air. If you don't have the fans your componants would overheat and die.

The disk drive is used to read CDs. It takes the data off of the CD and lets you see it in a file on your computer.

The heat sink is something that goes on the proccessor to disperse the heat off of the CPU to make sure it doesn't overheat. The fan on top is used to remove the hot air away from the heat sink.

Troubleshooting Project!

In this project we took a computer changed 1 or 2 things in it that caused a problem then handed the computer to another group for them to fix it. In my group we switched the cord that tells the power button on the front of the computer to turn on or off with the MLED cord. When we turned it on the fans made a pulsating sound like it wasn't getting enough power. We also unplugged the motherboard power cable but made it look like it was still plugged in. The other group did the same thing we did with the button on the front of the computer, but when we turned it on the boot up screen didn't look familiar so we thought something else was wrong.
