Breadboard Basics

On Monday Week #2 we learned how to put together a simple circuit using wires, LED's, and resistors.

Our Circuit

We used a transistor to light up the two LED's and then connected the two LED's to the positive bus that was connected to the battery. Then we attached the negative end of the transistor to the negative bus with a wire. This created a circuit that lit up both of the LED's.

What is a Circuit?

A circuit is a roughly circular line, route, or movement that starts and finishes at the same place.

Soldering

Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal (solder) on to a joint. We soldered a Maker Faire pin (in the picture below). We put the LED ends through the "eye" holes and the soldered the ends so they would stay on the pin. We then soldered on the battery holder and the part that attaches it to your shirt.

Logic Gates

A logic gate is a computer circuit with several inputs but only one output that can be activated by particular combinations of inputs
