Hardware

This week we worked on a server project and learned the parts of a computer. A visit to the Computer History Museum in Mt. View shows that a lot of different things have been called computers. There have been machines for counting and navigating for a long time. A man named Jacquard invented a way to use cards with holes in them to run a loom for making fabric. In the 1800s a man named Babbage designed a mechanical machine that would have been programmable if he had been able to finish it. During WWII the math for the Manhattan Project was done by people called computers that just solved math problems. Alan Turing broke the WWII Enigma code by building a type of computer. Today we have electronic machines that use integrated circuits to process information.

We spent as lot of time trying to fix this disabled computer.

Computer Parts

These are parts for an awesome gaming machine . . . Awesome!

crossblade-ranger

^^^The motherboard is the hub for all the electronic components to connect. It holds the CPU and has connections for all the components.

AMD-FX-9590-processor

^^^This is the CPU. The CPU {AKA Central Processing Unit} is where all the data in the computer is computed then used.

ASUS-Radeon-HD-7970-Matrix-1

^^^This is the graphics card. The graphics card takes over processing graphics for the CPU. This gives you better speed and enhances the detail of your screen so you can play games at high quality with no trouble {depending on the one you get}.

Corsair-Vengeance-Pro-Red

^^^This is Random Access Memory (RAM). RAM is memory that acts on the go. It is where the data you are using most often is saved then deleted when you are done with it. RAM is short term storage for stuff that is being worked on.

ROG-RAIDR-PCI-E-SSD-2-1000x756

^^^This is the SSD. The SSD {AKA Solid State Drive} is like a hard drive, but does note use discs. It has integrated circuits. It is much faster and works great for booting up the OS.

WD_Red_6TB

^^^This is a HDD. The HDD {AKA Hard Disk Drive or Hard Drive} Is where everything long term is stored. Such as programs the operating system ect.

P67-2024-05

^^^This is the optical drive. It's called optical because it uses lasers to read and write to the disk. The optical drive is where you put CD's, Blu-ray's and DVD's when you want to use them.

maxresdefault

^^^This is the power supply. It gives power to all components in the computer.

^^^This is the case that holds all the computer components.
