Binary


In are normal number system we go by tens but computers go by twos, one and zero. In the number 10 in the normal system the 1 is in the tens place or 10 by the power of 1, 10 as in what the number system is based on 10. So 10 in binary is 2 to the power of 1... some more maths stuff later and we get 2, all in all 10 in binary is 2 in are normal system of numbering.

Basic Gates


AND Gate

The AND gate needs for input one and two to be on for the output to be on.

OR Gate

The OR gate can have input one or two be on for output to be on.

XAND & XOR Gates

They work the same as there AND & OR counter parts but will output the opposite.

2 Bit Adder


This simple calculator will take two values and add them together, yet the two values are just one and it can only add up to two.

Soldering

Soldering is sticking 2 pieces of metal together with hot metal. The hot metal is lead, witch melts more easily then iron or other metals, and in it is something called flux that helps with its application.

Robot Badge

With are new knowledge of soldering we practised it on a robot badge soldering kit, it had 2 LED eyes, a pin to wear it and a battery. In the end my robot came out nice with no mistakes made unlike one of my partners who did it backwards.

Computer Memory

We learned to make computers count but not how to remember counting, for memory we need a circuit that can hold data in till we want to change it. This is a job for a flip-flop, or "gated SR latch".

My Creations

4 Bit Binary to Decimal Converter


In this circuit it use four inputs to set the decimal number and a fifth input that activates an automatic decoder that will spit out what number it is. With that information I hooked it all up to or gates that will display the number on the 8 bit screen.

Operating System


A operating system or OS is pre-installed in all computers so it can serve a variety of purposes, do complicated interactions with the user, and allow change over time. OS are not like hardware were it is permanently attached to the computer allowing it to be able to be updated or replace it. OS does two main things manage the hardware and software, and allows the applications deal with the hardware.

Types of OS's

There are four main types of OS's all are made for a different type of task, like on for networks or personal use.

Real-Time Operating System

RTOS have little user interface but are made so that every time a task is run it dose it at the same speed. Good for machinery, scientific instruments,and industrial systems.

Single-User, Single Task

SUST allow one use to effectively do one thing at a time.

Single-User, Multi-Tasking

SUMT allow one user to do multiple things at a time. Used for PC, and include Windows and MacOS.

Multi-User

Allows multiple people to use an application on the same computer.

Transistors


Transistors are the building block of technology.

A Brief History

In past vacuum tubes were used to make computers work but they were unreliable and were to hot, so a team on scientific were assembled to find an alternative methods and come across a patent for a transistor like device the team of scientific improved it and invented the first transistor.

What is a Transistors

Transistors are devices that control the movement of electricity. They start and stop the flow of a current, and they also control the amount of the current. With electricity, transistors can both switch or amplify electronic signals, letting you control current.

Moore's Law

Moore's law, made by Gordon Moore the co-founder of Intel, is that every two years the amount of transistors in a integrated circuit will double. This law is like to stay in effect until we reach the atomic level, in about 10 to 20 years.
