Server Project

For our first poject in computer science we took apart a server. Our server did not work because of internal damage and for that reason we could not start up the monitor. But we still looked at the parts of the server. And our group went around to see how the server actually worked.

The Other Server’s Problem

The server wouldn’t start up and the monitor wouldn’t start. But the motherboard’s light was on which meant that the server was on but wasn’t getting the power it needed.

Our Groups Troubleshooting

We started to look at the serial cables and we thought those were correct. So we started looking at the other problems that could have occurred to the server. After 10 minutes we found out that the serial cables were wrong. And we rearranged the wires and we started up the server successfully.

Our Server’s Problem

For troubleshooting we moved and disconnected the RAM from the motherboard that way the server would start but not the monitor. Also we disconnected the serial cables from the the power cables and we moved the serial cables around that way the server wouldn’t start.

The Other Groups Troubleshooting

The other group found out the problem and found the solution by fixing the RAM and they connected the serial cables to the power supply but later their monitor didn’t work so they found out that the serial cables were out of place. After 5 minutes of confusion the other found the right placement for each of the serial cables and started up the monitor.
