My Server Project

For our Server Project, we took apart the server from a computer. (That is, the bulky box-looking thing that stores all of your data and powers your computer.) We did this so that we could study what the inside was like, the different parts, and what their function is. There were lots of really little parts and bigger parts that we had to be careful with. Everything varied in size and shape. For example, there was the Rainbow Cord, which was made up of little colorful wires that divided at one end and plugged in to different parts of a.. thing.

There was also the CPU, which is what makes the computer work, and is the main part of the server. It is kept under the Heat Sink, which keeps the CPU cool, because otherwise, it would heat up too much and burn out, making the computer dysfunctional. There were also fans that are on the side of the server to keep the CPU from heating up, along with the Sink.

There was also the Hard Drive, which is used to store all of the information that you need on the computer. ^_^. The Hard Drive is not the only thing that keeps information on your computer; there is also the RAM. But the RAM only stores information for what you are working on at the moment, and does not save permanently, which is how a lot of people lose files or other things that they were working on. (They don't save their work to the hard drive~.)

from right to left, there is the RAM, and the Hard Drive~.

There is also an Optical Drive, which is where you put CD’s or DVD’s so that you can use information from on them, or put information on them. :3

But none of these are the most important parts of a server, believe it or not. (Though they still are pretty important.) It is the Motherboard. The Motherboard is what gives commands/instructions to the other parts of the Server so that they can work and do what they need to do. :3 But also, let’s not forget the Power Supply~! >o< It does exactly what the name implies: it supplies power to the entire server so that it’ll turn on and do what must be done *dark tone*. ^w^

A random (but relatively important) part of a server is the clock. Yup, they even have those~! ^w^ It’s really small, and is powered by a small, circular battery (about the size of a dime, I think). The clock is used to keep track of the time of day, and the date. :3

Troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting problems is when there's something wrong with your server, and you run it, trying to figure out what's wrong with it, so that you can fix it. ^_^ We had to do this as a class, by messing with our own server, and then going to another group's and fixing theirs. ^_^ My group and I loosened the RAMs and unplugged Nyan Cats (the rainbow wires's) PWR~. :3 Our “problem” was that the server couldn’t even turn on. ^_^ We then had to go to another groups table, where they had a server that they had tampered with, and we had to troubleshoot it, while they did ours. We were able to solve the problem, because it was really simple. All they’d done was move around some of the rainbow wires, and we were able to fix them quickly. :3 We started to play pinball afterwards. :3333( I won in the second round. ^_^) Their problem was that it wasn’t picking up any connections within the server. So we opened it up, and after looking for a minute or 2, we saw that they had switched around the rainbow wires~. :3
