Robotics

For week 4, we started to tackle on another thing and that was ROBOTICS! Where we would build robots and program them to do stuff like move around, pick up objects, launch objetcs, and make it make it use touch/sonar.

Right here we have the original robot. It was a pretty simple design it only took us around 5 mins or so (I'm pretty sure). What we used to put it all together was use a big square object called a brick which not only do we use it to put the whole thing together but also to power it. (I call it CENTRAL COMMAND!)

Here we have another AWESOME angle shot of the original robot. What there is the ports to connect the wires which power the sensor and sonar. Pretty cool

Here we have the front view of the Original robot (we'll name the original bot bot.1). The front part shows more ports where you would connect the right motor and left motor. Whats annoying about having to do this was the programming and trying to build a stable robot (with the correct programming, which causes it to do squares and loopdy loops, etc) pretty neat but frustrating.

Here we have a pretty awesome video recorded by me. The video is about a battle that Andrew and James group did. Not so epic as I thought it would be but it shows how much they have accomplished during that time. Although my robot, bot.1 didn't work so we spent a majority if the time trying to fix it.

The next day, we had a task to program our robots to follow a green line as shown. You might think hey that sounds pretty easy. WRONG! Holy cow, this took forever to do because all the programs would mess up pretty bad and it's just annoying. Of Course there was I believe 3 or 4 groups that almost had it.

The next task that was given to us was to make it stay in the green square and try to make it find the blue tape. It was much easier to do then the green line. Except for me it did the opposite which was cool but very frustrating because it just wouldn't respond to and gave me errors.

Here is the code to the some of the robotics. NOTE: This codes or old and not the correct ones. It is up to you to fix it.

Mars Challenge

Today in class we were given the task as the final part of the robotics which was the Mars Challenge. The goal of the challenge was to avoid the craters and find the water, sounds fairly easy right? Well it kinda was but I wasn't able to because there would always be a problem in my code and it would never respond or just do the opposite. Although, it was able to get it working somewhat.

Here we have some basic codes which do the basics like move forward, backwards, left, and right. Nothing fancy and its pretty fun to use these commands. NOTE: I didn't create these, they were given to me already and I thought why not here use these.

Now Robotics days are over in computer science. I enjoyed it having to build a robot and take care of it as if it was your child, well some people least. Having to program to avoid obstacles, giving it human characteristics like touch, color, and sonar (no not like bats but hearing in general). It was pretty neat and I enjoyed but all it did was just frustrate me. So that's all, Thanks!
